Besides our Wednesday night gatherings we offer a more specialized biblical

education for Jr. and Sr. High students on Sundays from 9:45-10:45 at the

church. We have two, three-year cycles of courses. The first course, Overview

of the First (or “Old”) Testament, is for 7th-9th grade students. The second

course is split over the three years: year one is Overview of the Second (or “New”) Testament, year two is Bible and Church History, and the final year is How to Study the Bible. Through these courses we hope to encourage each student in a lifestyle of Christ-like understanding and response to the message of the Bible and a fidelity to the body he has established here on earth to do his work in the world.

Our Part in God’s Story

(ARCHIVE) The Story of God (7th grade and up)

I love a good story, don't you? Whether we're shooting the breeze with friends, sitting around the lunch table, watching a movie, or curling up with a good book, we're all just looking for a good story. But why do we have such an irresistible need to listen to stories? A good story has the power to change the way we think and maybe even the way we live our lives. A good story can tell us where we came from, who we are, where we're headed, and what's important. Did you ever think that maybe the reason we like stories so much is that we're looking for one of our own, one that gives shape to our very existence? You may not be aware of it, but God wrote a story. A great story. Although we often view the Bible as somewhat of an anthology, a collection of poems, tales, and discourses that have little to do with one another, the Bible is actually, primarily a grand narrative. It's the story of God. It's the story of what he's up to in this world, what he's like, what he most deeply desires, where he wants to go, and what's important to him. What would it be like to really understand the story that God is writing and to live our lives out of that story instead of the incomplete, unsatisfying stories we already live our lives by? Why don't you come and find out for yourself? Starting September 11th for the Sunday School hour Josh Morgan will be teaching a new 7-month class entitled The Story of God where we invite you to discover what the story of God is all about and your place in it. Hope to see you there!

Sharing the Hope (7th-12th grade)

Most people today are aware of CPR and what it means, namely, someone's heart has stopped and they are dead and in need of having their heart resuscitated. Before someone can administer physical CPR, they should have some training and tools to help give someone a better chance of coming back to life. When practicing ‘eternal CPR,’ so to speak, we are aware that there are many around us who are like 'dead men walking', people who are physically alive, but are dead spiritually and in need of a new heart. Beginning Sunday the 22nd, the 7th-12th grade students will be meeting in the youth room downstairs in a new class called “Sharing the Hope,” in which we want to train you in (C)ultivating, (P)lanting and (R)eaping principles in order to see people's hearts awakened for an eternal kingdom and life with our wonderful triune God.

While it is true that the Spirit of God alone can bring the spiritually dead to life, God has chosen to include his people in the process. God's people can be a powerful force used by God to attract others to the message of the gospel. In this class, we will discuss how to identify what stage a person is at in their journey. It is futile and counterproductive to reap, when nothing has been sown, or to cultivate again, when it is time to reap! There are many examples in scripture of Jesus and other believers using the principle of CPR.

Another major topic we will discuss is apologetics, this is the reasoned process of making a coherent defense of the truth of the gospel. This can be a dangerous activity, if you are not secure in your own understanding—your own faith can be undermined. We will spend time looking at how Christianity compares to the worlds false gods.

Many people fail to practice the principles of ‘eternal CPR’ because of lack of knowledge, support and practice. This class will help you overcome those obstacles. Come ready to learn, share and be motivated. God can use you!
